Forfar Athletic started their season in the best possible fashion with a 2-1 win over Airdrieonians on Saturday.

Mark Millar’s deflected effort gave Forfar the win after David Cox’s opener was cancelled out by Murray Louden.

The Loons had the first chance when Marc Scott fired straight at Rohan Ferguson from a tight angle.
David Cox nodded over from a Jamie Bain cross before Ousman See did the same after meeting Millar’s corner.
Former Loons striker Andy Ryan came close to a goal for the visitors but could only send his header wide.
Millar hit the bar with a well struck effort while See had a header tipped over by Ferguson.
Ryan Conroy fired over for the visitors in the 27th minute and at the other end Eddie Malone saw a couple of chances saved by the keeper as Malone looked for his first competitive goal for the club.
On the stroke of half timeCox gave Forfar the lead against his former club with a well taken header from Jim Lister’s cross.

Airdrie equalised just before the hour mark when Adam Brown’s ball to the back post was knocked home by Murray Loudon.
It wasn’t long before Forfar were ahead again; Conor Quigley setting up Millar and his deflected effort flew past Ferguson from 25 yards.
The game quietened down with the main highlight the torrential rain that affected the standard of play.
Airdrie were close to an equaliser with four minutes left; Scott Thomson’s cross was met by the head of Cameron Russell but his effort hit the bar with McCallum beaten.

The result will give the side a boost ahead of this week’s tough trip to Ayr United.
