Forfar Athletic saw their lead at the top of League Two cut to just one point as they drew 1-1 away to Elgin City on Saturday.
After going behind to a Darryl McHardy goal, Jim Lister flicked a header home with twenty minutes to go to salvage a point at a notoriously difficult ground.
Three changes were made from the previous week’s defeat with Grant Adam, Lewis Milne and Gavin Swankie returning to the starting eleven while Aiden Malone was on the bench again after signing amateur terms.
Forfar had the opening chance when Jim Lister teed the ball up for David Cox however the striker could only find Mackay’s arms.
Swankie was next to test his luck with a low driven effort that went narrowly wide as Forfar started brightly.
Grant Adam had to be sharp to deny former Loons trialist Kieran Stewart when the midfielder raced on to a Craig Gunn through ball but the keeper pushed his shot wide.
Mark Nicolson was unlucky not to open the scoring for the hosts midway through the half; his long range effort flying inches over the bar with Adam beaten.
Danny Denholm had a couple of efforts saved by Mackay as chances started to be few and far between in the first half.
Elgin took the lead three minutes into the second half after Chris Dodd’s shot was deflected over and from the corner Darryl McHardy nodded home at the far post.
In the 71 st minute the Loons equalised; Lewis Milne sprayed the ball across to Jamie Bain and his cross was flicked over the advancing keeper by Lister for his third goal in three games.
Neither side came close to finding a late winner however the Elgin defence had to look sharp to clear a Josh Peters cross off the line after it was diverted towards goal by an Elgin defender.
