Forfar Athletic 5 Formartine United 0

Wednesday, 11 July 2018 12:04

Forfar Athletic were dominant in their third pre-season friendly against Formartine United with a five-star performance.

Goals from Dylan Easton, Thomas Reilly, trialist Mark Stowe and a John Baird double sealed the win despite Baird missing a penalty.

The Loons took the lead just five minutes in when trialist Mark Stowe set up Easton and he saw his effort take a slight deflection over the keeper.

The lead was doubled in the 21st minute; Dale Hilson had a shot pushed past the post and from the resulting corner the ball fell to Thomas Reilly, he was more than happy to send a curling attempt into the back of the net.

Just three minutes before the break Stowe made his mark on the game with a fantastic 25-yard effort, giving keeper Kevin Main no chance.

Assistant manager/striker John Baird came on at halftime and it took him just forty seconds to get on the scoresheet with a 20-yard strike.

He almost had a second shortly after when he rounded Main but took a heavy touch and a defender got back to cover the tight angle.

Dylan Easton was bundled over inside the box in the 64th minute and Baird stepped up to take the penalty but was denied by Main.

He wasn’t to be denied nine minutes from time as he bundled home a Jamie Bain cross for his second of the evening.
