Match Preview
The ‘Loons’ return to home match action following three successive Saturdays on their travels when Michael McIndoe’s Edinburgh City are the visitors to the Parkgrove Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday.
It has been well documented that during October month, the Athies lost all six competitive games played in three different competitions, five of them amazingly by a 2-1 score line.
That certainly was not the case at Forthbank last weekend when five goals were shipped with the ‘Binos’ picking up the three points on offer courtesy of a 5-2 success.
Jim Weir admits that it was an extremely disappointing score line, the second time this season that we have lost five goals in a game on our travels.
The manager is well aware that it will sound like a ‘broken down record’ but last weekend yet again some good football especially in the first half was totally wasted as the opposition were gifted one soft goal after another on their way to eventual victory.
The management team have been working hard this week to restore confidence in the group and instill some much needed confidence in the players and are convinced that positive vibes were evident in training on Thursday evening.
Jim intends to make a change or two to his starting line-up, although Jake Dolanski and Adam Brown are still ruled out. Mackenzie Lemon returns to the match day squad and Jim looks likely to rely heavily against the ‘Citizens’ on the more experienced members of his player pool in current circumstances.
That could include a role for Craig Slater who is within a whisker of full fitness though whether that is in the starting line-up or from the bench will be a late decision.
Jim is hopeful that Ethan Crombie’s inclusion in the Scotland Under 19 squad following some excellent performances since his arrival on loan from Dundee will also give his colleagues in the Sky Blue shirt a boost going into such an important contest.
The manager realises that the two successive home outings against Capital City opponents are massive for the club, positive results in both so important going forward for the ‘Loons.’
Edinburgh City arrive in Forfar in good fettle following a 2-1 win over Dumbarton last Saturday, Innes Lawson early in the contest and Robbie Leitch in added on time at the end of the second half their marksmen.
If it was not for the five point penalty carried forward from last season, City would be in the league’s top four at present, a testament to their pedigree.
The referee on Saturday Jordan Curran will be making his second visit of the season to Forfar.
