Angus Derby Ends in Stalemate

Forfar Athletic 1 Brechin City 1
The game started off at a brisk pace with both sides looking to attack one another, Dale Hilson had the first chance when he latched onto a Chris Templeman knock down in the penalty area but couldn’t finish.
Brechin’s first attack was a ball over the top and McAllister fired a shot just wide of Euan McLean’s left hand post. McKenna picked up the ball in the Forfar half and rifled a fierce volley which just dipped over McLean’s crossbar.
The best chance of the first half fell to David Mowat after another Templeman cushioned header but the ball wouldn’t sit down for him in time and he fired wide from 10 yards.
Second half started off much the same, Forfar won a corner on the left which was swung in by Barry Sellars, Graham Gibson rose well but couldn’t direct his header on target.
Forfar opened the scoring with a good run from Paul Lunan down the right hand side and he whipped a great ball deep into the penalty area where Templeman rose above the last defender and sneaked the ball between Nelson and the post. This seemed to spur Forfar on and chances fell to Mowat & Gibson but both failed to convert from close range.
Brechin equalised from a corner on the right hand side the ball was only cleared to King who shot low and hard into the left hand corner of the net.
The last 5 minutes seen both teams going for the winner and Forfar had two great opportunities, one from a Martyn Fotheringham free kick 25 yards out in the centre of the park which he curled round the wall but shaved the outside of Nelson’s left hand post and the other fell to Mowat inside the box but he couldn't keep his shot on target.
Overall a draw seemed a fair result and neither team will be too disappointed with the outcome.
