A slightly beleaguered Forfar Athletic side will no doubt welcome the conclusion of October, a month which saw them end up losing all six games played in a mix of league and cup action.
The defeat at Bo’ness in the second round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup, allied to the failure to reach the knockout stages of the KDM Evolution Trophy, means that the ‘Loons’, who have already completed twenty-seven games this campaign, including, it has to be said, pre-season friendly fixtures, now only have three scheduled matches in November.
All three will be in the William Hill League 2, with points gathering an obvious priority.
Two home games are on the card over the next two weekends, the first of those against Edinburgh City on Saturday first; both of them in current circumstances tough ninety minutes of action for an Athies side low in confidence.
No doubt however a lot of hard work and energy will be expended in training this week in preparation for the visit of the ‘Citizens’ who would in fact be in a top four spot in the league table was it not for a five-point penalty carried over from last season. Jim Weir’s side picked up a hard-earned point on their Friday night visit to Meadowbank in late August.
The other Capital City outfit The Spartans are then the visitors to the Parkgrove Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday the 14th of the month.
The ‘Loons’ were on the wrong side of a 5-1 scoreline at the Vanloq Stadium in September, with Spartans now under the management of James Craigen, who had a short spell on loan with Forfar back in 2013, currently occupying the final play-off spot in the fourth tier.
Galabank Stadium in Annan will be the port of call on the 21st of November for a fixture against the only side currently sitting below Forfar in the league standings.
The ‘Loons’ picked up all three points against Willie Gibson’s outfit on their visit to the ‘toonie’ in mid-September courtesy of a Luca Perrie goal and certainly the return fixture in Dumfriesshire in just under three weeks time is shaping up already to be a crucial mid-season encounter.
A free Saturday on the 28th is now on the cards following that Scottish Cup demise a ‘sair dunt’ to club finances, prior to the visit of Clyde on the first Saturday of the final month of the year.
