Variety is the ‘Spice of Life’ for ‘Loons in October

Following on a busy September month when the ‘Loons’ played seven competitive fixtures, a further half dozen games lie on the horizon in October, this time round in three different competitions.

First on the ‘menu’ is a trip to Dumbarton on Saturday first as the first quarter of the William Hill League2 fixture list is completed.

The second batch of nine fixtures commences with a home clash with Elgin City at the Parkgrove Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday the 10^th of the month, the sides having drawn 1-1 up at Borough Briggs back in early August.

Attention then turns back to the KDM Evolution Trophy on Tuesday the 13^th as the sixth and final batch of group stage matches take place.   For the ‘Loons’, that heralds a lengthy midweek trip to Dingwall to face Stuart Kettlewell’s Ross County side.

Following on the Athies two victories against United’s youngsters and Formartine United over the past four days, a win at the Global Energy Stadium would almost certainly clinch a berth in the knockout stages of the competition for Jim Weir’s side.

However, a defeat or even a share of the spoils against the current League1 leaders would mean an early exit this time round.

On Saturday the 17^th of October we return to league action with our shortest trip of the season to Kelty Hearts who parted ways with manager Tam O’Ware last week.

A week later, on the 24th, it is back to cup tie action when clubs in the fourth tier of the SPFL enter the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup at the second round stage.

Let’s hope for a home draw when the balls are pulled out of the ‘pot’ over the coming weekend; the alternative is a run of four away games on the bounce.

The sixth and final fixture of the month sees a Halloween visit to Forthbank Stadium, with Steven Whittaker’s Stirling Albion as the opponents.

The ‘Binos’, to the surprise of many a pundit, currently occupy the bottom spot in the league table, 3-0 the margin of victory in Forfar’s favour when the sides met in the ‘toonie’ earlier in the campaign.

On paper, certainly an exciting month lies in front of all connected with the ‘Loons’ cause.
