September month will be with us on Tuesday and it is certainly going to be a hectic one for many clubs at SPFL League1 and 2 level and that is certainly going to be the case for Forfar Athletic.
Jim Weir and his current squad will in fact face the prospect of seven competitive fixtures in a twenty-five day spell.
Three of those contests will be league fixtures, the other four matches in the KDM Evolution Trophy.
In the first of those fixtures on Saturday first, on the back of picking up a hard fought point in Edinburgh on Friday evening, Stranraer are the Athies opponents at the Parkgrove Stadium @ Station Park on match day six in the William Hill League2.
The visitors currently sit one point adrift of Jim Weir’s side, so a hard fought encounter will no doubt be on the ‘cards.’
Then Aberdeen is the ‘port of call’ on Tuesday the 8th of the month for the first ever competitive fixture between Highland League outfit Banks O’ Dee and the ‘Loons’ in the KDM Trophy.
In fact the sides met for the very first time ever in a pre-season fixture at Forfar in July, the outcome a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
Spain Park on the banks of the river in Abbotswell Road in the Granite City is the venue for the clash.
Saturday the 12th of September will see the Athies head back to the Capital City for a league fixture against The Spartans at the Vanloq Community Stadium, not a happy hunting ground for Forfar in recent times.
That trip will be followed seven days later on the 19th with a visit to the ‘toonie’ from Annan Athletic, one of two sides that we managed to pick up all six points from on home ‘soil’ last term.
The month then comes to a conclusion with three home games in eight days in the KDM competition.
League One Peterhead are the midweek visitors for what will undoubtedly be a tough test on Tuesday the 22nd, then in the midst of a weekend dominated by Nations Cup fixtures we entertain Dundee United’s youngsters on Saturday the 26th.
We then contest what will be our penultimate group stage fixture when Formartine United make a return visit following last week’s abandonment four days later,
