MATCH PREVIEW: Cowdenbeath v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 28 January 2016 20:28]
The ‘Loons’ players will head for Central Park on Saturday no doubt with ‘sair’ hearts after Tuesday’s cup exit at the hands of Linlithgow Rose and still looking for that elusive first league victory since September.
They will face a Cowdenbeath side without a win to date in 2016, a 2-1 derby defeat to Dunfermline on January 2nd being followed not surprisingly by a cup exit at Ibrox, prior to a somewhat surprise 2-0 defeat at home by Stranraer last Saturday.
Gary Bollan’s side will go into the fixture without the services of defender Michael Travis following his injury against the ‘Warriors’ last weekend, a few other suffering minor injuries after the midweek cup-tie.
The Manager is working feverishly behind the scenes to hopefully bring in a fresh face before kick-off on Saturday, but Andy Ryan ineligible for the game with ‘Rose’ will return to lead the line.
It is a mystery to many why the ‘Loons’ have found wins so hard to come by after a blistering start to the campaign away back in August, but time is running out and the ‘tide’ must turn quickly with only sixteen games left to play, nine of those away from home.
The Central Park side were disappointed to lose Andy Murdoch who had been on loan from Rangers in the first half of the season, in fact making his debut against the Athies in Cowden’s 2-1 home win in September to Queen of the South earlier in the month. They have however shown fine form in patches in recent times, most notably with a superb first half showing in a cup replay at Gayfield to clinch the Ibrox jaunt and with it a six figure windfall.
The club’s met for the second time in the campaign only last month when a Greig Spence goal on the half hour mark clinched the points for Colin Nish’s side at Station Park.
Colin was an interested spectator on Tuesday evening.
Saturday’s match will be refereed by Ayrshire based first season Grade One official Steven Kirkland who will be handling a ‘Loons’ away match for the second time this campaign.
Admission charges at Central Park are £14 for adults, £7 concessions. There is also a parent and child gate priced at £15.
