Stranraer v Forfar Athletic – Match Preview
[Monday, 03 March 2025 17:13]

The ‘Loons’ will hope it is third time lucky when they make the long trek to Stranraer on Tuesday following the William Hill League 2 fixture having been postponed on two previous occasions through weather related problems.
Jim Weir and his players will head to Wigtownshire in the wake of a disappointing home performance on Saturday past at home to Clyde. Jim did not hide his feelings on the outcome of the game and will without doubt as will all connected with the club be looking for a positive reaction tomorrow evening.
Saturday’s display was all the more frustrating after two fine away days against Bonnyrigg Rose and Spartans, difficult really to comprehend. Certainly as is obvious there is little further room for error in our efforts to move off the bottom spot in the table and it is to be hoped that the players will respond accordingly at Stair Park.
Certainly the management team’s plans were disrupted at the last minute at the weekend, Danny Denholm suffering from a sickness bug which had affected his whole family, while Josh Skelly suffered a reaction following his full participation in training on the Thursday evening which also ruled him out. The injury situation is now also compounded with the absence of Nathan Cannon who had to be assisted from the field of play in the second period against the ‘Bully Wee.’
The Athies now come up against a Stranraer side who have hit a rich vein of form in recent times recording three successive victories, Craig Ross’ second half goal securing all three points at Edinburgh City on Saturday past, this following on from home successes against Stirling Albion and Elgin City.
The sides have met twice at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park this season, the home side winning 2-1 back in September, the visitors picking up all three points courtesy of a 1-0 victory in January. The sides meet for a fourth time back down in the south west corner of the country later this month.
No doubt a few Forfar ‘die hards’ will head for Stranraer, support that is so appreciated, hopefully however the ‘Loons’ fan base from ‘a the airts’ will have some good news to digest come 10pm. on Tuesday evening.
The man in the middle at Stair Park is experienced whistler Steven Kirkland.
