PREVIEW
After four games out of the last five having been on the road, the ‘Loons’ return to the Alpha Project Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday when Spartans are the visitors in the William Hill League2.
Those four away games have seen a remarkable upturn in fortunes for Jim Weir’s side with ten points having been gained from three hard fought victories as well as a share of the spoils with this weekend’s opponents. Manager Jim Weir has been delighted with that quartet of results and performances, the only disappointment the home defeat from Clyde two weeks back in the midst of those travels it seemed to all points of the compass!
Jim and his players are looking forward to a return to home ‘soil’, the first of five fixtures still to be played at Station Park before the league campaign comes to a conclusion. Jim is keen to say the least that the good form shown on our travels will be replicated on Saturday, the spirit and especially the confidence level amongst the squad having been given an obvious boost in recent times.
Though so appreciative of the support from the terraces in our recent run of away fixtures, Jim acknowledges the backing the players and the staff have had from the Station Park faithful since his return and all are especially keen to reward that loyalty with victory over the Capital City opponents.
Mackenzie Lemon misses out as he serves the second game of a two match ban, although of course the management team are delighted that Bradley Rodden scorer of vital goals at Stranraer and Elgin will be available after his red card at Boroughbriggs was overturned on appeal. Only Ross MacLean of the quintet of players unavailable for the Elgin clash has recovered from injury and he will be in Saturday’s squad, the others hopefully due to return to training next week. Danny Denholm misses out on two counts, injury and of course the fact that he cannot play in any case against his parent club. Adam Hutchinson who had to be substituted at Boroughbriggs in the last quarter with a shoulder injury has thankfully made a quick and full recovery.
Dougie Samuel’s side travel north on the back of a 2-0 midweek win at Elgin, main striker Blair Henderson and Ayrton Sonkur their marksman on the night. That result lifted the Ainslie Park side into joint fourth spot in the table and they will no doubt be keen to build on that success on Saturday.
It will be the fifth meeting between the sides this term as they also clashed in a Premier Sports sectional tie, the ‘Loons’ still to record a victory. Hopefully that will change tomorrow with Forfar fans hoping that many of the key players in the home ranks will continue to show the improved form that has been so evident in recent times over the so vital ninety minutes.
The man in the middle on Saturday is Duncan Williams who took charge of our Scottish Cup tie up at Cove back in January.
