PREVIEW
The ‘Loons’ welcome East Fife to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday in the William Hill League2, still battling to get over those final few hurdles and secure their SPFL status.
The overall picture has certainly improved greatly over the past four to six weeks for the Athies, with as has been well documented some excellent returns on ‘foreign territory’ while the struggle to secure a home victory has continued.
Tomorrow’s fixture will be another tough test, Dick Campbell’s outfit having slipped in recent times from the top spot in the table but following an excellent second half fight back against Spartans last weekend, they sit only a point behind leaders Peterhead.
Manager Jim Weir though relishing the challenge the fixture with East Fife brings, acknowledges that Saturday’s opponents are probably the most experienced side in the division.
Jim nevertheless reiterates how pleased he has been with the effort and application that his own players have displayed since the turn of the year, all as he readily admits is missing is that elusive home win.
At both midweek training sessions the coaching team and players have worked on slight tweaks to the system in the hope that the pressure that was even extended upon league leaders Peterhead last week will this time round result not only in goal scoring opportunities but also the conversion of a few of the same.
One or two players have had slight illness systems this past week and will be subject to a late check, but there are no fresh injuries worries in the camp. Certainly with the depth of talent and no little experience on the bench last weekend, there is room to manoeuvre these days for Jim and Gavin in regard to their starting line-up, but as ever all will be revealed come 2pm on Saturday.
According to reports from across the water, the Bayview side’s leading scorer Alan Trouten will not feature in their starting line-up but again only time will tell.
Saturday’s opponents have recorded two narrow victories over the Athies in Methil this term, the previous Station Park encounter resulting in a 0-0 draw, best forgotten!
Long serving Grade One official Gavin Duncan pays his second visit of the season to Forfar to take charge of what is such an important ninety minutes for both sides.
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
