Preview
The ‘Loons’ welcome William Hill League2 leaders The Spartans under the guidance of long serving manager Dougie Samuel to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday. The home side will go into the contest keen to erase the memory of a recent poor record against the side from the Capital City.
Since recording a 1-0 victory over the Edinburgh outfit in February of 2024, the sides have met on seven occasions in league and cup, with tomorrow’s visitors recording five victories, the other two games ending with the points shared.
The Forfar management duo are well aware that the team will have to be at its best for Saturday’s clash and will without doubt be looking for an improvement on the disappointing second half showing at Stranraer. Assistant Manager Gavin Price reflected on a very close contest between the sides earlier in the campaign, a game in which few goal scoring chances were created with most pundits present agreeing that the visitors deserved to take a point for their efforts. However there is little doubt that Saturday’s opponents have been flying to say the least of late and a stiff test awaits.
Marc McCallum remains on the sidelines with Neil Stafford set to continue in goal, Keiran Inglis still also not ready for match day action. A couple of other squad members will be assessed on arrival at the ground.
Spartans arrive in the ‘toonie’ having defeated East Kilbride 2-1 in both the league and Scottish Gas Scottish Cup over the previous two Saturdays. Goals last weekend from James Craigen and Cammy Russell saw the Ainslie Park outfit open up a six point gap at the top of table over Mike Kennedy’s side while two Marc McNulty counters midway through the second period clinched cup tie success the previous Saturday.
Obviously a hard fought ninety minutes lies ahead for the injury hit home side who will be all out to get some points on the board prior to an away double header against Stirling Albion and Dumbarton.
The man in the middle for Saturday’s contest is Connor Ashwood who will be making his second visit of the season to Forfar, having also been in charge of Dumbarton’s visit two months back.
As is always the case over Remembrance weekend, supporters will be requested to join the officials and players in a minute’s silence prior to kick-off to remember the fallen of two world wars and many a conflict since.
