[Sunday, 05 November 2017 14:09]
The ‘Loons’ recorded only their second victory of the
campaign, their first under Jim Weir’s stewardship with a dramatic but in the
end well deserved 4-3 victory at Coatbridge yesterday.
The win also lifts the Station Park side off the bottom of
the table and will have the fans looking forward with keen anticipation to the
visit of East Fife this Saturday.
Rovers took an early lead in Saturday’s contest, Alan
Trouten netting from the penalty spot in the fourth minute. The visitors
levelled on the ten minute mark with a goal originally credited to David Cox,
but now officially ranked as an Alan Reid own goal by the match officials.
It was 1-1 at the break, the home side restoring their lead
through Connor Shields in the 56th minute. The visitors though rallied immediately
and took a firm grip on proceedings from then on in, aided by some positive
substitutions.
David Cox equalised with a close range header the hour mark,
before he put the Athies ahead for the first time in the contest seventeen
minutes later. Josh Peters then netted a decisive fourth in the last minute of
the ninety, Sean Higgins scoring a consolation third for the home side deep
into added on time.
