There will be only one message emphasised to the players by the Forfar Athletic management team prior to Saturday’s home game with Annan Athletic in the William Hill League2.
A return to winning ways is essential, and that will only be achieved by a much improved performance level following consecutive defeats in their last two league outings by a four and three goal margin.
Last weekend’s defeat in Edinburgh saw the overall performance rated by Jim Weir as the worst since his return to the club nearly two years back and a repeat showing is certainly not on the manager’s radar.
Jim was especially disappointed by the fact that Spartans seemed on the day to be more up for the battle and also the manner in which the goals were conceded, unusual defencive frailties cruelly exposed over the ninety minutes.
One of the few bright spots on the day, was the manner in which Luca Perrie took his goal in the second period, the ‘Loons’ afternoon summed up within sixty seconds when Spartans responded with what was at the time their fourth goal of the contest.
Jim is also keen that we go into the two week break from league action with a third league win under our belts but it will be no easy task against Willie Gibson’s side who triumphed 2-0 at home to Elgin last week, Charlie Maxwell and Ally Roy the scorers in the dying embers of each half respectively.
The Galabank side travel north sitting just one point ahead of the Athies.
At last there is some good news to report on the injury front with Matty Allan, Ross MacLean and Adam Livingstone all stepping up their training routine over the past week.
Whether any will see match action in the trio of KDM ties that lie ahead is a matter for conjecture at the moment but Jim is hopeful that one if not two might be in the match day squad for the trip to Dumbarton on October 3rd.
Back to Saturday’s game and as ever the home support could prove to be a vital 12th man on the day with their backing which has been so consistently appreciated in recent times.
