Dunfermline Athletic v Forfar Athletic – Match Preview
[Thursday, 09 May 2013 23:42]
For once the website match preview does not have to flag a fixture up to any degree.
Anyone with even the slightest interest in the ‘Loons’ cause will know that we go into Saturday’s Play-Off Semi Final second leg at East End Park with a two goal advantage following the stunning performance especially in Wednesday night’s first period at Station Park. However in the overall context of the tie it is only half time, a point Dick Campbell made within minutes of the end of that epic first leg.
Forfar will go into the game on Saturday with their pool as ever it seems these days stretched by injury, although it was hoped earlier in the week that Danny Denholm might have recovered from the knock he took in the Ayr game and be able to play some part in the East End Park leg.
The home side will no doubt will go into the match fired up by Jim Jeffries and with the backing of an impressive home support.
However indications are that a fair number will be making the 65 mile journey south to support the visitors though whether it will equal the 300 who made the trip to Falkirk in the cup remains to be seen.
Whatever the outcome, it has been another season to remember for all connected with the ‘Loons’ but a play-off final place and a couple of live television appearances that go with it, would be just the ‘icing on the cake.’
A reminder that away goals do not count double in play-off fixtures if scores are level after 180 minutes, extra time and penalties if necessary will settle the eventual outcome.
Premier League referee Stevie O’Reilly will be in charge, the first time this season he has controlled a Forfar fixture.
