Forfar Athletic’s Under 19 side reached the final of the Scottish Football League’s Youth League Cup competition with an amazing 5-2 extra time win over Livingston at Station Park on Thursday night.
There was only five minutes of the regulation ninety remaining with the visitors 2-0 up when Jamie McLachlan reduced the leeway with a fine individual goal.
Then deep into injury time, Jack Syme scrambled home an equaliser.
The same two players then netted in the first period of extra time, Paul McLellan scoring a fifth in the closing minute to seal a remarkable comeback, sending the home fans in the crowd of well over 100 into raptures.
The coaching staff and young players deserve great credit for their effort and no little improvement in results in the second half of the season in particular,
The young ‘Loons’ now meet Hamilton Accies in the final which is likely to take place on Tuesday evening of next week.
The venue may be decided by a toss of the coin.
