The ‘Loons’ returned for pre-season training last night and Manager Dick Campbell was able to confirm the arrival of three newcomers to the squad for the season ahead, all of whom have agreed one year deals with the club.
Stuart Malcolm, who previously had a brief sojourn in Forfar colours, returns to Station Park following a two season stint with near neighbours Arbroath. The six foot three inch central defender who has in a lengthy career worn the colours of ten clubs in Scotland , England and Ireland was offered a new deal by ‘Lichties’ boss Paul Sheerin but opted to join his former Gayfield team mate Mark Baxter in the ‘Loons’ squad.
Paul McManus has moved to Station Park following a third spell in East Fife’s colours. The thirty year old forward has also seen ‘active service’ with Raith Rovers, Brechin City, Stranraer and Albion Rovers racking up over 350 senior appearances. Dick Campbell has tried to entice the experienced Fifer to Station Park on a previous occasion and is delighted with his decision to turn down the offer of a new contract at Methil to move across the Tay.
Midfielder Gary Fusco is the third new ‘kid on the block.’ The Edinburgh based player was released in May after six seasons with neighbours Brechin City, having also previously worn the colours of Cowdenbeath. Gary with nearly 300 senior appearances under his belt is the type of player Dick felt he was lacking in the ‘engine room’ on occasions last term.
There was further good news with Keith Gibson reporting fully fit for pre-season work and the Dundonian, for whom injury cut short his season last term after making an excellent early impact, will put pen to paper this weekend on a new one year contract.
