Forfar Athletic Manager Dick Campbell took his number of summer signings into double figures on Tuesday night when four players put pen to paper on contracts with the club.
Most notable was the signing in a Player-Coach role of veteran goalkeeper Rab Douglas who left Dundee at the end of the season. Rab has signed a one year deal and will continue his senior playing career which began at Livingston 21 years ago as well as coaching the Station Park side’s other keepers.
With Derek Soutar still sidelined with injury and unlikely to feature in the foreseeable future Rab will go straight into the pool for Saturday’s Ramsdens Cup tie against East Fife. Livingston and Dundee on two occasions apart, the ten times capped keeper has also worn the colours of Celtic, Leicester City, Millwall, Wycombe Wanderers and Plymouth Argyle.
The signing of 23 year old midfielder Neil McCabe from Kelty Hearts was also confirmed tonight. Neil who has impressed in pre-season fixtures for the club has had previous senior experience with Livingston and Cowdenbeath.
James Dale another who has featured in all of the ‘Loons’ July friendlies has also moved to Station Park on a one year deal. The 19 year old from Reading is studying at Stirling University and played for the Scottish Universities side against their Irish counterparts in April of this year.
He has now followed a similar path from the Stirling University ‘breeding ground’ as Danny Denholm did last close season.
The fourth piece of the signing ‘jigsaw’ Bryan Deasley returns to Station Park having been with the club for two seasons from 2009, originally on loan from Dundee. Bryan then moved to Peterhead and after spending a fair part of last season in the East Region Super League with Carnoustie Panmure and Lochee United he jumped at the chance of a return to the senior ranks on a short term contract till the end of the current year.
