Forfar Athletic gets behind road safety campaign
[Friday, 20 September 2013 09:14]

Forfar Athletic, together with the Scottish Professional Football League, is joining forces with other major Scottish sports clubs and organisations to urge you to take care when driving on country roads.
Accidents on country roads account for around 70% of road deaths with three out of four of those deaths being men. In fact, country roads have claimed 746 lives over the last five years – that’s over 60% of The Loons’ home support over last year’s entire season.
Loss of control is the biggest cause of deaths on country roads, frequently associated with driving too fast and leaving too little time to react to unpredictable road conditions and hazards.
The campaign from the Scottish Government and Road Safety Scotland is being fronted by former Formula 1 racing driver, David Coulthard. You might already have seen the ad on television, heard it on the radio, or come across it online or in the cinema. The campaign aims to remind us all that we need to adjust our speed on country roads, no matter how well we think we know the road.
You don’t have to be breaking the speed limit to be driving too fast for the conditions – so please take care when driving home from today’s match, and when you’re following our club round the country. Even the best drivers in the world, like David Coulthard, adjust their speed on country roads.
Check out the Road Safety Scotland Facebook page for more information and join in the discussion on Twitter by following @RoadSafetyScot and using the hashtag #DontRiskIt.
You can also test your driving skills against the best for the chance to win 2 tickets to the Scotland v England game in the 2014 RBS 6 Nations when The Coulthard Challenge roadshow arrives in The Wellgate shopping centre, Dundee, on Tuesday 24th September.
