Scottish Cup Win sets up amazing run of fixtures

Tuesday night’s epic penalty shoot out win over Brechin City in the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup means that the ‘Loons’ will now entertain Premier League neighbours St. Johnstone in the fifth round of the tournament. It is remarkably the second season in succession that the Station Park side have reached the last sixteen stage of the competition.
The tie with Saints is currently scheduled for Saturday February 8th with a 3 pm kick off.
This means that our scheduled SPFL League One fixture that weekend away to Ayr United will be switched to a midweek slot.
However it sets up an astonishing run of fixtures for Dick Campbell’s outfit with now five home games in the course of six weekends, almost ‘dreamland’ for Forfar’ officials and supporters, not forgetting the local bakers!
Stenhousemuir will be the visitors to Station Park on the 11th of January followed by Rangers nine days later.
After a short hop over the Tay to tackle East Fife, it’s back home on February 1st with Airdrieonians the visitors. This is then followed by the mouth watering cup tie, the final and fairly ‘tasty dish’ on the menu, a visit from Dunfermline Athletic on February 15th on league duty.
Without doubt a great spell to savour and hopefully enjoy for all connected with the club from the Chairman down to the youngest fan and all credit to Dick, Ian and their players for setting it up, with a special mention to the heroes in what was by the end of the night a patched up side who gave every ounce of effort to secure the success over our local rivals on Tuesday.
The ‘Loons’ Directors were also delighted with the turnout and backing the players received in the cup tie and trust that it will entice many to make a few return trips to Station Park starting hopefully with another local derby clash on Saturday first when the ‘Red Lichties’ will be in town
