MATCH PREVIEW: Brechin City v Forfar Athletic
[Tuesday, 31 December 2013 11:01]
On Thursday afternoon of this week at Glebe Park, Brechin City and the ‘Loons’ will remarkably go into battle for the fifth time this season already in a match which no doubt will be eagerly anticipated by all concerned.
Each side has recorded a victory in league jousts to date, with the epic cup tie adventure of only a few weeks back still fresh in the minds of many.
Since their cup exit Brechin have had a mixed bag of league results. A defeat at Stranraer was followed by wins over Airdrieonians and East Fife, before they lost somewhat unluckily by a solitary goal to Stenhousemuir at the Glebe on Saturday past.
Forfar have played only two competitive games since the cup-tie picking up just a point from the game with Arbroath at a gale lashed Station Park.
After their trip to Stranraer was aborted in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Station Park squad trained a midday at Station Park and got in some useful match practice in a hastily arranged bounce game on Monday evening against Forfar West End, the highlight of which was a remarkable fifty yard strike from Martyn Fotheringham, in David Beckham mode.
Thursday’s game will come just to soon for Gavin Swankie, while Odmar Faeroe is still back in his homeland on a festive period break.
The match will be refereed by one of Scotland’s most experienced officials Calum Murray who also took charge of the November league encounter between the sides at Station Park.
The kick off is as normal 3 pm and hopefully as was the case in the recent cup tie, the ‘Loons’ can count on a sizeable travelling support.
