MATCH PREVIEW: Stenhousemuir v Forfar Athletic

The ‘Warriors’ and the ‘Loons’ go into battle at Ochilview on Saturday with only one point separating them in the League One table, although Dick Campbell’s side do have two games in hand.
As far as points gathering goes in the three fixtures between them this term, it is all square. Stenhousemuir triumphed 2-1 at Station Park back in August, before the teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Ochilview in late October. Then in early January a final scoreline of 3-0 in Forfar’s favour at Station Park certainly did not flatter the homesters.
Since then ‘Stenny’ have parted company with then manager Martyn Corrigan, his replacement former Scotland striker Scott Booth due to take over the reins next week.
In the absence of a ‘boss’, the ‘Warriors’ have drawn there last three league games, including an excellent 3-3 outcome from their visit to Ibrox last Saturday, while former ‘Loon’ Stewart Greacen was their saviour with a late goal at Airdrie on Tuesday past. This was a match which gave Dick Campbell an ideal opportunity to carry out a spying mission in advance of Saturday’s fixture.
As for the Station Park men, few if any changes are likely from the starting line-up that clinched a more than welcome three points at Gayfield last weekend.
Gavin Swankie who netted a brace against his home town team and his team mates will be going all out to build on that result at Ochilview, especially with another tough away assignment on the horizon at Somerset Park on Tuesday evening of next week.
Hopefully a reasonable number of supporters will make the 60 mile trek to the central belt to back the ‘troops.’
Saturday’s game will be refereed by former cup final referee Calum Murray, these days one of Scotland’s longest serving officials. Remarkably he will be handling a Forfar fixture for the fourth time this campaign.
