MATCH PREVIEW: Stranraer v Forfar Athletic
[Monday, 10 March 2014 13:10]
Amazingly with nine games of the league campaign remaining, three of those matches will be against third in the table Stranraer, the first two clashes within four days of one another this week.
It is the ‘Loons’ who will tackle the 185 mile midweek journey to the south west corner of Scotland on Tuesday, on the back of a disappointing home performance against Brechin City on Saturday.
Dick Campbell looks likely to have a stronger pool available to him than looked to be the case as Saturday’s ninety minutes drew to a close.
Martyn Fotheringham has made a quick recovery from his knock and will be in the squad, while Stuart Malcolm will face a late fitness test. Odmar Færø returned from international duty nursing an injury and a decision will be made on the morning of the game as to whether he will travel.
The Stair Park side have had a remarkable season in both league and cup competitions with manager Stephen Aitken a candidate surely for the League One Manager of the Season Award.
They did ‘come of the rail’s’ on Saturday past losing 5-0 at Ayr, but their play-off spot still looks a certainty as we enter the final quarter of the campaign.
Key to their success has been the striking partnership of Jamie Longworth and Martin Grehan with 38 goals between them to date.
They will go into Tuesday’s fixture minus the services of defender Frank McKeown, red carded at Somerset Park.
The match will be refereed by Glasgow based Don Robertson, reckoned to be an official with a bright future in the game.
