Forfar Athletic’s Under 19 side not for the first time in their SPFL League Cup group came out on the wrong side of yet another high scoring contest at Station Park on Sunday losing 4-3 to near neighbours Arbroath.
The young ‘Loons’ led 2-1 at the interval through goals from Craig Smith and Paul McLellan, both of whom were on the bench for the senior side against Stranraer the previous day.
The ‘Lichties’ then went 3-2 ahead early in the second period, before Smith restored parity in the 65th minute.
However despite being down to ten men, it was the visitors who netted the all important winner with three minutes remaining.
This result leaves the Station Park youngsters with little hope of qualifying for the latter stages of the tournament. They will continue their campaign however with an away fixture against Dundee this coming weekend.
