MATCH PREVIEW: Forfar Athletic v Albion Rovers
[Thursday, 13 August 2015 11:26]
Albion Rovers will make their first visit to Station Park since February of 2013 on Saturday, no doubt still basking in the glory of an excellent 3-0 home win over Ayr United on the opening day of the Ladbrokes League 1 season.
Ally Love netted a brace against the Somerset Park outfit last Saturday at Cliftonhill, this after Ross Davidson had given Rovers a second minute lead.
This Saturday’s clash will see the Young brothers come head to head in midfield with Albion’s Player-Manager Darren facing up to brother Derek who was outstanding in the ‘Loons’ 1-0 win over the ‘Diamonds’ in Lanarkshire last weekend.
The Coatbridge side who only listed four substitutes against Ayr will also have Andy Barrowman the former Dunfermline striker in their ranks, this after the player opted to move to Cliftonhill a couple of weeks back, despite interest in his services from Station Park gaffer Dick Campbell.
Albion’s win last week came on the back of first round defeats from Ayr and Raith Rovers respectively in the Petrofac and League Cups, meaning that last season’s League Two champs can concentrate on league action till the Scottish Cup comes along in late November.
The home side will go into Saturday’s contest having as yet not conceded a goal in three competitive outings which have yielded three victories.
Their twenty man squad will be tested to the full with four home games on the horizon in ten days, young defender Michael Kennedy a definite absentee for these fixtures following an injury sustained in a Development side friendly ten days back.
All connected with the Station Park side took great heart in particular from an outstanding first half performance last Saturday when some of the football on show was breath taking and despite a few niggling injuries sustained in the Airdrie fixture, it is likely that the boss will be keen to field the same starting eleven for the third Saturday in a row.
Saturday’s fixture will see the ‘christening’ of the new purpose built dug outs installed earlier this week at Station Park.
The referee for the fixture is second season Grade One official Colin Steven.
The match is sponsored by the Kirrie Dental Practice.
Admission prices are the normal £13/7 for the stand, £12/6 for the ground.
