MATCH PREVIEW: Forfar Athletic v Peterhead
[Tuesday, 08 December 2015 00:01]
Following on their first victory in a competitive match since mid September which saw them clinch a coveted spot in the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup, it is back to Ladbrokes League 1 action for the ‘Loons’ on Tuesday evening.
Peterhead currently sitting two points above the Athies in the league table are the visitors to Station Park, Jim McInally’s side no doubt still basking in the glory of reaching the Petrofac Cup Final in which they will meet Rangers in early April of next year.
Tuesday night’s clash will be the second fixture between the sides this term, the first back in early October at Balmoor ending in a 2-2 draw.
Nicky Riley gave the ‘Blue Toon’ outfit a first half lead that afternoon before goals from Gavin Swankie in the 48th minute and Iain Campbell in the 70th saw the visitors take a one goal advantage. However Leighton McIntosh netted the equaliser for the home eleven with twelve minutes of what was a hard fought contest remaining.
The home side will welcome back all three loan signings, Andrew Black, Scott Martin and Michael Rose to their pool for Tuesday night’s fixture, although there must be a doubt about the fitness of goal scorer Michael Travis who had to limp off after putting in a heroic performance against Queens on Saturday, despite not being 100 per cent fit.
Since their 2-1 win over Queens Park in the Petrofac semi, Peterhead have played two league fixtures, drawing with Stranraer, before trouncing Cowdenbeath 7-0, McIntosh netting a hat-trick in that fixture, Jordon Brown who had an all to brief spell on loan from Aberdeen at Station Park three seasons back, netting a brace. They then bowed out of the Scottish Cup, losing 3-1 to Livingston at the Balmoor Stadium a week past Saturday.
This will be the first midweek league fixture at Station Park for nearly two years and hopefully a few ‘die hards’ will drag themselves away from the fire side or the Champions League on the ‘box’ to support Dick Campbell and his ‘troops.’
The match has a 7.30p.m. kick-off.
Admission charges are the normal league prices, while season ticket holders should utilise voucher 15.
The man in the middle is Kincardineshire based school teacher Mat Northcroft, a familiar face to both clubs.
A reminder that the 1984 Lounge at the ground will only be open on Tuesday evening prior to kick off from 6.15p.m.
