MATCH PREVIEW: Forfar Athletic v Cowdenbeath
[Thursday, 10 December 2015 15:45]
The ‘Loons’ go into Saturday’s Ladbrokes League 1 fixture at Station Park against Cowdenbeath on the back of a run of ten league fixtures without a win, a record which all connected with the Station Park club realise cannot continue.
After three draws and a win in four league and cup-tie fixtures, Dick Campbell’s side were in certain areas of the park, the finishing department in particular, second best to visitors Peterhead on Tuesday past, the ‘Blue Toon’ outfit recording a 2-0 success that few if any could begrudge.
The Manager may decide to shuffle his ‘pack’ slightly for the visit of the Central Park outfit, but his options are limited through injury.
Thomas O’Brien failed a late fitness check in midweek and will be assessed right up to kick-off. Michael Travis who limped off early in the second period on Tuesday must be rated doubtful, this despite his obvious bravery and never say die attitude which saw make a start in central defence twice in the last week, making a telling contribution to say the least in the cup-tie success.
Hopefully one or the other will be fit for a back four berth come 3p.m. on Saturday alongside the impressive Michael Rose, undoubtedly the ‘Loons’ man of the match against Jim McInally’s side.
Cowdenbeath who defeated the Athies 2-1 at Central Park in a dire contest in September come to Station Park on the back of a 4-2 win over Arbroath at Gayfield on Monday evening in the cup, which saw them clinch a lucrative fourth round visit to Ibrox.
Their first half display in that fixture which saw them lead 4-1 was devastating and quite frankly they could have doubled their goals tally in that opening period.
That performance by Colin Nish’s side was in contrast to recent league form which has seen them lose 2-1 at Albion Rovers and 7-0 up at Peterhead and despite Forfar’s recent run, the ‘Blue Brazil’ still lie two points adrift of their Saturday opponents.
The match will be refereed Lanarkshire based first season Grade One official David Lowe who was at Station Park last month for Airdrie’s visit.
The match sponsor is Gordon Dobbie Heating and Plumbing Ltd from Kirriemuir.
Admission prices are £13/7 for the stand, £12/6 for the ground.
‘Loons’ season ticket holders should utilise voucher 16.
Finally a reminder that the 1984 Lounge at the ground will be open to supporters from 12.30p.m. to 2.50p..m. and on the final whistle till approximately 7.30p.m.
