Gary Bollan
Gary’s senior playing career commenced in 1989 at the age of 16 when he began a six year spell with Dundee United. From Tannadice it was on to Ibrox where he was plagued by injury and made only eleven first team appearances in a three season spell.
He then had a much more productive spell with St. Johnstone making over a century of appearances in a three year stay at McDiarmid Park. Livingston was the next port of call, his appearance for the Almondvale club in the UEFA Cup meaning that he had worn the colours of four different Scottish clubs in European competition.
After Livingston he returned for a one year stint with Dundee United, before a brief sojourn with Motherwell, a Player-Coach role at Clyde, before making 18 appearances up at Glebe Park, his last couple of senior starts in the colours of Albion Rovers.
Though never capped at full international level, he made 17 appearances for the Scotland Under 21 side between 1992 and 1995.
In August of 2009, Gary was appointed the manager of his former club Livingston. In the 2009-2010 season the ‘Lions’ won the old SFL Third Division by a margin of 15 points, following this up with a second successive promotion the following season.
He then left the West Lothian outfit in February of 2012.
Gary returned to management in October 2013 at Airdrie when the Lanarkshire outfit were bottom of the league table. A fine run of results after the turn of the year in which they lost only once in sixteen games to Rangers saw the ‘Diamonds’ finish in sixth place.
That performance saw Gary awarded a new two year deal in May of 2014 at the Excelsior, but changes in ownership/structure of the club this season saw him released from that contract on Sunday past to allow him to take over the reins here at Station Park.
Stuart Balmer
Gary brings 45 year old Stuart Balmer with him from Airdrie as his assistant. Falkirk born, Stuart made well over 450 senior appearances as a player from 1987 to 2008 in a career that began with Celtic as an 18 year old defender.
From Celtic Park he went on to play for Charlton Athletic where he made over 200 first team starts, Wigan Athletic, Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United, Boston United, Clyde, Hamilton and St. Mirren.
He then had a two year spell as a coach and subsequently Assistant Manager with Ross County, before moving to Airdrie.
While Gary of course lives locally, Stuart resides in Dollar but the travelling will not prove a problem, as he looks forward to the challenge that lies ahead.
