MATCH PREVIEW: Brechin City v Forfar Athletic
[Monday, 29 February 2016 11:26]
The ‘Loons’ will head to Glebe Park on Tuesday night in good heart following two successive wins to face a Brechin City side whom they now lead by seven points at the bottom of the Ladbrokes League 1 table.
While the Athies were triumphing 1-0 at home to Albion Rovers on Saturday past courtesy of Steven Craig’s last gasp header, City slumped to their second 4-1 defeat in week. However Darren Dod’s outfit were up against the country’s form team Peterhead on their own patch.
Gary Bollan’s pool for the game is likely to be along similar lines to Saturday, Scott Martin who took a slight knock late in the proceedings likely to have recovered to take up his midfield berth.
However the manager may just wish to tinker with his starting line-up, taking the current heavy programme of matches into account.
Brechin will hope to welcome back striker Andy Jackson to their side after he missed out through injury at Balmoor, while loan players Lewis Spence and Liam Watt who scored on his debut at Peterhead both suffered injuries late in the contest and are likely to require fitness checks prior to kick-off.
The Station Park management and players will go into the game knowing that a victory would certainly put some measure of ‘daylight’ between their hosts who have not won since December 19th and themselves, but they will not be taking the task lightly and no doubt Gary and his staff will be impressing on their players the importance of the occasion and the need for a high tempo ninety minutes.
Honours have been even between the teams to date this season with both clubs recording an away win.
Goals from Derek Young and Omar Kader gave Forfar a 2-0 win at Glebe Park in September, Andy Jackson’s second half strike sealing the points for City at Station Park in late October.
Hopefully despite the midweek slot, a fair number of the Station Park faithful will make the twelve mile trip north to support their side, the weather it would appear from the forecast for the next 24 hours unlikely to cause any problem.
The match will be handled by locally based first season Grade One referee Mike Roncone who also had charge of the Station Park clash between the sides in the autumn.
