Foxy's Golf Day Rounds Off Testimonial Year in Style

Alyth Golf Club provided the wonderful setting for the final event in Martyn Fotheringham’s Testimonial Year with a golf day taking place last Sunday over the Perthshire course.

Although it was a blustery day it stayed dry and a field of current and former Forfar players, sponsors and guests took part in highly competitive Texas scramble.  

The winners were a mixed team of current and former players Alan Rattray, Bobby Mann, Stuart Malcolm and Derek Soutar.   Although they tied with Billy Bennett’s team of Ross Campbell, Iain Campbell and Danny Denholm (ably assisted by caddie Thomas O’Brien) at the end of the 18 holes, the team led by Alan secured the top place by virtue of a better final six holes.  

Foxy’s own team picked up the wooden spoon with Martyn claiming “he didn’t want to steal anyone else’s thunder on the day!”  

The longest drive prize was won by Tom McLevy, representing Graham Pest Control, and the nearest the pin award went to Bobby Mann. Despite some dubious claims from a few of the players the hole-in-one prize of a new BMW, kindly sponsored by John Clark BMW Tayside, was not won but it provided some excitement on the 14^th hole.

The Testimonial Committee would like to thank all of Martyn’s current and former teammates who supported the event, those mentioned above and also Ian McPhee, Stewart Petrie, Robert Douglas, Mark Baxter and Charlie King. Ian Flaherty dropped by earlier in the day to wish everyone well.

Thanks also to the many people who gave raffle and auction prizes for the day including Graham Pest Control, Gary Bollan, Jamie Bishop, Robert Douglas and Dick Campbell.  Finally everyone taking part in the event was keen to thank Alyth Golf Club for providing such a great venue and for the friendly welcome given to the competitors and guests. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the catering was first class.

It has been a fantastic year providing a fitting tribute to Martyn’s loyalty and commitment to Forfar over the last ten years and the Testimonial Committee would like to put on record their sincere thanks to everyone who has played a part in Martyn’s special year.
