New Away Kit Launch & Baxter's 1st Birthday Bash
[Sunday, 02 July 2017 00:00]
The Club was delighted with the response to the new away
kit launch event which was combined with a celebration of Baxter's 1st
Birthday.
A crowd of over 140 supporters, officials, players and
management was welcomed to Station Park on Friday 30 June 2017 by Chairman Ken
Stewart to see the white and navy away kit being modelled by members of the
first team squad. Michael Kennedy, Michael Travis, Andrew Munro, Dylan Easton
were joined by last minute addition and new signing Ousman See. Also taking
part were junior season ticket holders Beau and Penny Taylor, Michael and James
FitzGerald and Ryan Moore. The strip proved to
be popular with queues in the
Club Shop during the evening snapping up the new kit along with other new items
of the training gear supplied by Pendle, the Club's kit manufacturer. The Club
were also pleased that Scott McKinlay, Managing Director of Orchard Timber the
Club's long standing sponsor could attend on the evening.
The winners of the competition to design a 1st birthday
card for Baxter were also announced with the top prize going to Carly Hogg of
Southmuir Primary School for her brightly coloured card featuring
Baxter playing
at a packed Station Park. Highly commended awards went to Daniel Buist, Calum
Beckers, also of Southmuir Primary School with a further award to Carly Hogg
for a second entry. Andrew Peters of Northmuir Primary in Kirriemuir, also
highly commended was present at the event where he collected a certificate and
helped Baxter to cut his birthday cake.
The extra special Baxter birthday cake was donated by
Karen Murray and her staff at J McLaren and Son bakers and they also helped
with savoury snacks on the evening as did other long-term supporters of the
Club Morna and Mike Saddler of Saddlers & Son. The guests also enjoyed an array of sweet
treats kindly donated by Linda Taylor and Marilyn Mackie.
Following the formalities the 40 plus children took part
in football challenges including a beat the goalie event against former Forfar
Athletic keeper Jason King and a Euro goal challenge. Vice-Chairman Dennis
Fenton also took a turn scoring from close range although groundsman Martin
Gray entered the field of play with a stretcher as a precaution! The first team
players showed off their skills in front of goal with Andrew Munro standing out
with his fine finishing.
The evening drew to a close with the assembled guests
enjoying a drink or two in the 1984 lounge with many of the children (and a few
'bigger kids') still outside playing football well into the darkness clearly
enjoying the Station Park facilities.
A huge thanks to everyone who helped organise the event
and who contributed to the smooth running on the evening. Special thanks to
Alan and Rhona Shepherd who were on their feet all night behind the bar. There
are too many people to thank by name but rest assured the effort put in was
greatly appreciated.

Finally many thanks to everyone who came along to support
the Club. We hope to see many of you back here for the pre-season fixtures and
of course the important Betfred Cup matches later this month.
