Happy New Year
[Monday, 31 December 2018 14:16]
As the year of 2018 draws to a close and 2019 dawns, the Chairman, Directors, Management Team and Players of Forfar Athletic Football Club would wish all sponsors and most importantly supporters wherever you are based a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
The club certainly goes into the New Year in better heart and shape than at this time twelve months back.
At that point, we knew we were in a relegation dogfight, a fight that we eventually won with a few weeks to spare it has to be said.
This time around we sit in a playoff spot at the right end of the Ladbrokes League 1 table following Saturday’s victory over Brechin City, albeit somewhat adrift of the current league leaders.
We are also unlike last season still in the Scottish Cup, with a visit to Premiership high flyers Kilmarnock to look forward to on January 19th.
No one, however, is complacent about the four hard months of the campaign still ahead of us.
Though finances are still tight, despite the extra income the cup tie will generate, Jim Weir is already hard at work attempting to strengthen the depth of his squad to make certain that we continue our challenge for a top-four spot come May 4th.
There is no doubt that others currently just below us in the tight and highly competitive league will be doing likewise.
Obviously, the club has seen a benefit in increased attendances this term with the four Angus clubs and two Fife sides being in our Division.
However, it has also to be said that one or two of our fundraising ventures this past year have not been as well attended as in the past and this is a situation that the Board along with others on various sub committee’s will be working hard to rectify in the year ahead.
We are still nevertheless the envy of many with the support we receive at many of these functions and in particular on home match days in regard to match sponsorship and hospitality bookings.
Forfar Athletic in its current form as has been stated often could not exist without the army of volunteers who assist the club on match days and many other occasions. As the year ends and another begins a big thank you to you all.
In conclusion to every ‘Loons’ fan, enjoy the New Year festivities wherever you are in the world and we look forward to your continued support as 2019 beckons.
Cwa the ‘Loons.’
