John Baird heads to Pastures New
[Saturday, 18 May 2019 11:43]
Over the past few months, the still hurting defeat from Raith in the play-offs apart, it has been mostly good news that the ‘Loons’ have passed on through their social media channels etc to the fans.
Sadly this morning it is a bit of bad news.
Club officials were stunned over the last 24 hours when they received the news from John Baird that he was heading off to Australia in the hope of starting a new life eventually with his family down under.
In the circumstances Jim Weir and the Directors have had no option but to reluctantly accept John’s resignation from his post as Assistant Manager while the striker’s imminent departure also leaves a major void in the current first team squad.
The Station Park club were in fact John’s 13th senior club when he signed exactly a year ago following his release from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
He immediately became a firm favourite with the fans and after missing the opening Betfred tie against one of his former clubs Falkirk through suspension, he went on to make 44 consecutive appearances in league and cup matches for the Athies notching 22 goals in the process.
John moves on at present with the thanks of all at Station Park for a season to remember and with best wishes for his future.
Jim Weir will now take time to evaluate potential candidates to become his number two in the season ahead.
The good news at the end of this story is that Manager has been hot on the heels of a striker since early in the week and hopefully there will be developments before the current weekend is over.
