One in – One out at Station Park

Forfar Athletic officials can this morning confirm the signing of 27-year-old Sean Burns who spent last season with our neighbours Brechin City.
However, they can also confirm that Adam Eckersley will not be plying his trade at Station Park next season.
Sean Burns a player equally at home in defence or midfield has signed a one year contract with the ‘Loons.’
A player who Jim Weir has targeted since the conclusion of the 2018/19 campaign, he began his senior career as a youngster with St. Mirren.
From there he moved on to Airdrie and then to Queens Park. Former Scotland Under 19 international spent eight seasons with the ‘Spiders’ also being appointed club captain in his time at Hampden.
Sean then moved on to Glebe Park a year back and was a regular in the City side in the season just completed.
The Adam Eckersley situation is obviously a disappointment to Jim Weir and club officials, but it all ‘part and parcel’ of football these days.
Adam arrived at Station Park in January on loan from St. Mirren, at the same time agreeing and signing a one-year pre-contract agreement with the ‘Loons’ to cover the 2019/20 season.
He then went on to make nineteen appearances in a Forfar shirt netting two goals from the left back position.
However, in the interim Adam who had been a full-time footballer since leaving school found employment outside the game as well.
His work hours allied to family commitments meant he could not comply with Forfar’s training schedule and following discussions with Jim Weir, it was mutually agreed that the Station Park club would not hold him to his original obligation.
According to press reports this morning, he is likely to join Ladbrokes League 1 rivals Airdrieonians whose ‘hybrid’ plans for the season ahead will obviously prove to be more convenient for the West of Scotland based player.
