Scottish Cup Replay Preview

Forfar Athletic will go into Saturday’s Scottish Cup third round replay with the possibility of Steven Tulloch and Graham Gibson, who trained on Tuesday night, as possible additions to the 16 man pool that made the journey south last weekend. Youth team keeper Anton Mordente will again be on the bench with Adam McHugh unavailable for cup tie action.
To alleviate a potential problem, the ‘Loons’ will again wear, as they did last weekend, their change all tangerine outfit. Forfar’s first choice strip of sky/white clashes with both Stranraer’s first choice blue strip and their second choice white outfit.. To save the Stair Park club the hassle of finding an alternative colour of top at the very least, Forfar agreed to the switch.
If Forfar can progress on Saturday a tie with Aberdeen awaits. If this turns out to be the case it will be the first time since 1923 that the ‘Loons’ have met the ‘Dons’ in a competitive fixture meaning for a few Forfar officials and fans that they would complete the task of having seen their side in a league or national cup tie against all 42 current senior clubs in the land. It is doubtful if there is anyone around who saw the 1-0 success for Aberdeen back on the 13th of January, 1923 but you never know.
As a matter of interest, Aberdeen apart, Hibernian come second in the league, as far as length of time since Forfar have met them in a league or cup encounter. Our last joust with the Easter Road men was an 8-1 thrashing back in January, 1971.
