Forfar Athletic v Stirling Albion (Scottish Cup Round Three) – Match Information
[Tuesday, 26 November 2024 13:29]
Jim Weir’s homecoming as the ‘Loons’ manager was delayed with the postponement of the Peterhead fixture, his debut match second time round alongside assistant Gavin Price now a vital home game in the third round proper of this season’s Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.
The Athies opponents at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park this coming Saturday fellow League 2 side Stirling Albion.
Scottish Cup ties always bring with them a measure of extra excitement for officials, players and supporters and this weekend is no different as the home side attempt to reach round four and a potential tie with a Premiership outfit for the second season running. Hopefully on the day they will have the backing of a reasonable home support.
Arran Cocks was the Station Park hero in the last round, his 59th minute counter the only goal of a hard fought contest against Lowland League Berwick Rangers, a match that to be fair the ‘Loons’ dominated but as ever this season found goals difficult to come by.
Albion will of course be tough opponents, Alan Maybury’s side currently sit fourth in the league table and were 2-1 winners over Forfar in their only clash to date this campaign at Forthbank in early October.
Amazingly the clubs have only met once before in a Scottish Cup tie, Stirling of course only formed in the aftermath of World War 2 in 1945. That game took place at the ‘Binos’ former home Annfield in January of 1976, Abion winning by the odd goal in three.
The match this Saturday will have the usual 3pm. kick-off.
