Clyde v Forfar Athletic – Match Preview
[Friday, 08 August 2025 11:32]
The ‘Loons’ head west on Saturday to Hamilton for their first away match in the William Hill League2 campaign against Darren Young’s Clyde side. While Jim Weir’s ‘troops’ were picking up all three points in their opening joust at home to Stranraer, the ‘Bully Wee’ by all accounts were unlucky to end up on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line at Dumbarton.
Jim and Gavin were of course delighted to get off to a winning start and are hopeful of building upon that result tomorrow. The manager in the aftermath of the Stranraer fixture watched and analysed the re run of the ninety minutes and as ever saw areas where improvements can be made. These thoughts were imparted to the players at training on Thursday evening and the management team are certain that with the self belief within the squad there is no reason why another three point haul cannot be secured.
Jim is also delighted to get Jake Sutherland on board following his loan transfer from Dunfermline earlier in the week. Jim was particularly excited by Jake’s enthusiasm to make the move and how little persuasion he required to temporarily drop down a couple of divisions to hopefully enhance his career at a young age. Thankfully there are also no injury worries going into Saturday’s contest with Martin Rennie for one particularly looking forward to Saturday’s clash with the club where he spent two happy and productive years before moving to Forfar in the close season.
All within the ‘Loons’ camp are delighted with the way the new faces, now ten in number have settled in but one cannot forget the contribution already this term of those who have been around for a season or two. Skipper Stuart Morrison who is already forming a formidable partnership at the back with Jake Dolzanski was a well deserved sponsors Man of the Match last weekend not only for his winning goal, but also for his decisive tackling in defence when required. Ross MacLean is another who seems to have found a new zest and sharpness this season, causing the visitors defence no end of problems on Saturday past, while Craig Slater is again showing why he was such an important capture for the club back in January.
Clyde have brought in around six newcomers to date, the latest Taylor Sutherland brother of Jake, also on a temporary transfer agreement from the ‘Pars.’ They have also recruited two experienced goalkeepers in Jay Hogarth and Kyle Fleming.
The Athies failed to record a win over Clyde last term, two defeats and two draws the outcome of the four clashes and they will naturally be keen to put the record straight early in the season this time round, but all realise it will be no easy task.
The league table certainly has a strange look to it this early in the campaign, with Dumbarton on the minus two point mark and Edinburgh City now on minus fifteen following the SPFL ruling earlier in the week which is of course subject to an appeal, but every point will still as all know be hard fought and vital even this early in the campaign.
Referee for Saturday’s clash at Hamilton is Joel Kennedy who handled a couple of ‘Loons’ league fixtures last term.
