East Kilbride v Forfar Athletic – Match Preview
[Friday, 29 August 2025 17:22]

The ‘Loons’ will pay their first ever visit to K Park in East Kilbride on Saturday to meet the high flying home side who have made a not unexpected strong start to their first campaign in the SPFL.
Jim Weir however is looking forward to the challenge that lies in front of his squad, following on from their solitary goal defeat in the Capital City last weekend. Jim and his management team still took a fair number of positives from the ninety minutes against the Spartans and is confident that his squad will bounce back from that first league defeat in the weeks ahead. He does hope that the players will go out to do battle in Lanarkshire tomorrow with the same attitude and mentality that they have shown in abundance in home fixtures in both league and cup this term, the same spark perhaps not always evident on our travels.
The manager is delighted with the fact that he will again have a full squad to choose from with no injury worries reported following the midweek derby at Montrose. This fixture in the KDM Trophy again allowed Jim and Gavin to utilise their full pool of players in a competitive environment. The end result at Links Park was a disappointment but the ‘boss’ is convinced that sufficient points will be gained in the remaining quartet of games in this competition to secure qualification to the second phase. Jim did add that he had hopes of adding to his squad numbers through a loan deal this past week, but that move is on hold for the present.
Back to the quest for league points and there is no doubt a hard fought ninety minutes lies ahead against Mick Kennedy’s side tomorrow. The ‘Loons’ hierarchy recognise the strengths of their opponents who have defeated Elgin City, Stranraer and Stirling Albion, following a first day defeat from Spartans and know they pose a real threat in all departments. The home side will however go into the contest without the services of key player John Robertson who was shown a straight red card at Forthbank last Saturday.
A familiar face in the home ranks to visiting supporters will be Nathan Flanagan who spent the 2022/3 season with the ‘Loons.’
Both sides will be keen to get to secure full points prior to a two week break in league action, the Athies having two successive home games to look forward to when ‘hostilities’ in the William Hill League 2 resume on the 13th of September against Dumbarton then Annan Athletic.
Daniel Graves is Saturday’s man in the middle.
