Preview
Annan Athletic are the visitors to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday in the William Hill League2, the Galabank outfit’s first visit to the town since March of 2023 when the home side came out on top 2-1. Both sides go into the game struggling for form, in fact both have lost their last three league games, losing twenty goals in the process!
For his part, Athies manager Jim Weir is still struggling to comprehend how his side managed to lose all three points against the ‘Sons’ last weekend and he can assure the fans that midweek training sessions have been focused as one would expect on getting back to winning ways, in particular improving the defensive capabilities when dealing with cross balls into the danger area. To be fair Jim added how impressed the management team have been with the attitude of the players in those sessions.
Jim admits last Saturday was a particular low point in his managerial career, losing 3-2 after going two up early in the contest and one could see that within his after match interview on FAFCTV. However tomorrow is another day and despite a few injury niggles, the manager is hopeful all will be fit and raring to go come kick-off. Jim admits a change or two in the starting line-up could be a possibility in an attempt to get the right result and end product over the ninety minutes.
Annan sit a point below their hosts in the league table following their 6-0 home defeat to Clyde last week, manager Willie Gibson classing the performance as embarrassing. Tomorrow’s visitors are obviously missing the influence and goal scoring ability of striker Tommy Goss who moved in early season to East Fife and despite a dozen or so new faces have found it hard going on their return to the fourth tier after two seasons up in League1.
With away fixtures at Edinburgh City and Elgin City on the horizon, the home side will be extra keen to pick up all three points on Saturday and at the same time reward the home faithful with the display they deserve.
Stewart Luke is the referee for Annan’s visit.
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
