The ‘Loons’ welcome the young ‘Dons’ to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Tuesday evening as the group stage fixtures in the KDM Trophy continue.
A win for the home side on the night would almost certainly assure the Athies of qualification for the knock out stages of the tournament with two games to spare. However seedings for the knock out stage will be determined by final league table placings, at the conclusion of the group stage games in early November, guaranteeing there are few if any meaningless encounters.
Jim Weir is likely to again shuffle his pack for Tuesday night’s match as he has in the previous trio of fixtures seeing the tournament as an ideal opportunity at this stage to get competitive game time in the legs of those whose first team opportunities have been limited. Young custodian Neil Stafford for example is likely to maintain his ever present record to date in the competition, while Nathan Cannon, MacKenzie Lemon, Jamie Richardson and Jake Sutherland to name but four will be potential starters.
The Pittodrie youngsters have lost all three games to date in the tournament, however reports suggested they were impressive over the piece in their last outing a couple of weeks back at Links Park, deservedly taking the lead early in the contest.
Home officials hopes that a few of the localised ‘Dons’ support might have taken the opportunity to see their club’s youngsters in competitive mode have been dashed with the Pittodrie side’s first team now in action just 12 miles down the road at Tannadice Park in a re-arranged Premiership fixture. Hopefully however a fair smattering of the ‘Loons’ die hard following will turn out on the night to lend their most welcome support to the Athies cause.
The man in the middle for the tie is Cameron Stirling, the third referee in recent times who will be handling a ‘Loons’ fixture for the first time.
Reduced admission charges will again be levied for this fixture which has the usual 7.45pm. kick-off.
Adult admission will be £10 for both the Stand and Terracing with Concessions prices for those aged 12/17 and 65 & over pegged at £5.
