Caley Thistle’s Last Visit to Forfar
[Wednesday, 08 October 2025 12:04]

In an article last week posted on our social media in regard to our October programme of fixtures, the writer commented that Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Forfar Athletic’s clash this coming Saturday in the KDM Evolution Trophy would be the first meeting between the sides in over twenty years.
I hold my hands up! I got it as rightly pointed out by an eagle eyed fan wrong and in fact the sides last met on 29th July, 2017 in the final group game in opening stages of the League Cup.
The match at Station Park attracted a crowd of 526, the visitors picking up all three points courtesy of 2-1 victory. The win was not enough to see Caley Thistle through to the last sixteen as one of the best placed runners up, the ‘Loons’ finishing bottom of the five team group.
On the day, Marc McCallum saved a Liam Polwarth spot-kick on the half hour mark, Marc Scott giving the home side the lead three minutes into the second period after good lead up play by David Cox. Within six minutes of that opening counter however, the side from the Highland Capital had gone 2-1 up. Their marksmen were George Oakley and John Baird, the latter due to become a firm favourite with the Athies support only twelve months later.
A reminder that this coming Saturday’s fixture with the current William Hill League1 leaders has the normal 3pm. kick-off at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park, a full preview to be published on FAFC social media channels on Friday.
