KDM Evolution Trophy – Knock-Out Round of 32
Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park
Tuesday December 9th – kick-off 7.45pm.
Following on their 3-0 defeat from the now William Hill League2 leaders East Kilbride on Saturday past, the ‘Loons’ return to cup tie action on Tuesday evening when Edinburgh City are the visitors to the ‘toonie’ in the first knock-out phase of the KDM Evolution Trophy.
Of course at this stage of the competition the ten championship clubs enter the fray, fifteen ties due to take place tomorrow night, the Dumbarton v Inverness Caledonian Thistle clash delayed by a week due to the latter’s Scottish Cup midweek commitments.
Both the Capital City outfit and the Athies finished the group stage phase of the competition on twelve points from their six games played, Jim Weir’s side attaining sixth place with City in eighth on goal difference. The ‘Loons’ as you will recall triumphed over the ‘B’ sides of Hibernian, Dundee and Aberdeen, also picking up three points at Cove, losing out to Montrose and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The home management team do not have their troubles to seek on the injury front with all six players sidelined on Saturday past again likely to be unavailable. With young on loan defender Lyle Wark ineligible having played for his parent club Rangers earlier in the season as did Cormac Christie, Jim may only be able to list three outfield substitutes on the night, not an ideal scenario.
Edinburgh City who won 4-3 at home to Dumbarton on Saturday past, having been four up by the 47th minute will be making their first of two visits to Forfar inside eleven days as they are the ‘Loons’ next scheduled home opponents on Saturday week. When the sides met earlier in the campaign at Meadowbank, Craig Slater gave the Athies a first half lead, Michael McIndoe’s side snatching an 84th minute equaliser.
The referee for the tie is Conor Ashwood who will be making his third visit of the season to date to Forfar, his last only four weeks back for the visit of Spartans.
