A Busy Month Ahead for the ‘Loons’
[Tuesday, 03 March 2026 10:28]
March month has dawned and it will bring with it a hectic period for Forfar Athletic management, players and supporters, especially those who religiously follow the Athies home and away.
Six games are on the horizon beginning with a mouth watering clash at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday first against a Clyde side who lost their first league game of the calendar year on Saturday past at home to East Kilbride. The match against the ‘Bully Wee’ is the first of the final quarter in the original league fixture list and in all three previous outings to date Jim Weir and Darren Young’s sides have secured a point apiece. More information etc. about this fixture will be published as the week progresses.
Seven days later on the 14th of the month and it the first of four away games in five outings for the ‘Loons’ with a visit to Forthbank Stadium to face Stirling Albion. A repeat of the 4-0 score line in our favour that was recorded in the central belt back in mid November would be just ‘dandy’ but one has the feeling the final tally on Saturday week will be much closer to call?
The following week brings with it a double header against The Spartans. Six wins on the trot by East Kilbride has seen Dougie Samuel’s outfit slip to second spot in the table but they are still a very formidable force at fourth tier level. The first of the two fixtures takes place at the Vanloq Community Stadium on Tuesday the 17th of the month, the return ‘bout’ at home four days later.
A midweek trip on the 24th is the next ‘course on the menu’ for the month to meet an Elgin City side who have recorded one or two eye catching results in recent times, not the least their victory by the odd goal in three at Stranraer on Saturday past. Three points on that evening will certainly make the lengthy trip home especially for our West of Scotland based group of players perhaps feel just that little bit shorter, fingers crossed indeed!
March month comes to a conclusion with a final away jaunt on Saturday the 28th, the Marbill Stadium in Dumbarton the venue for a meeting with the ‘Sons’ who of course we defeated 2-0 only three weeks back on home ‘soil’. Although it is nearly four weeks away a reminder that this fixture will have a 2pm. kick-off a the request of the home club to allow their supporters the opportunity to at least get home in time to switch on the television coverage of the 5pm. kick-off at the National Stadium of Scotland’s home friendly with Japan. Interestingly at present in the other four games in our division clubs have stuck with the normal 3pm. start to proceedings.
The question posed by many ‘Loons’ fans no doubt, will March be a defining month as far as our chances of achieving a play-off spot? It is certainly brings with it six games in a twenty two day period that will be a test of the ability, fitness and character of the now enhanced Station Park squad. However a quintet of League2 games remain in April and into May month, three of those remember home fixtures. By then we will have completed fifty competitive fixtures this season, however all of a Forfar Athletic persuasion will hope that the campaign will be extended by a week or two, of that there is no doubt.
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
