The ‘Loons’ Need Your Support
[Thursday, 23 April 2026 12:06]
Following the last league game of the season just under twelve months ago when the ‘Loons’ recorded a 0-0 draw at home to Stirling Albion to retain their status as a member of the SPFL, manager Jim Weir gave a stirring speech to the supporters over the PA system when he gave a guarantee that we would not be in the same position this season and that he had every intention that we would in fact be competing at the other end of the league table.
Well aided by his staff and players, Jim has been true to his word and the club go into Saturday’s final home game of the William Hill League2 campaign against Edinburgh City with an opportunity to in the first instance reach the League1 end of season play-offs.
However despite going into this Saturday’s contest having won eight home league games instead of three last term and scoring not far short of double the amount of goals in league fixtures at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park, the average home attendance at the seventeen fixtures to date is considerably down on last term. In fact the figure concerned is on or around the 100 mark!
To be fair we have not had the pleasure of entertaining a more than reasonable away support provided by East Fife on their two ‘derby’ match visits last season, but another boost to our average attendance last season came in the final two matches. A crowd of 903 turned out for our penultimate home game against Bonnyrigg Rose, while 995 made the effort to come along to the clash with Stirling Albion and give the players superb backing as the Station Park club in their 140th year teetered on the brink of a Pyramid Play-Off clash against East Kilbride.
As mentioned Jim and the current squad, many of them promising youngsters, albeit some on loan making their way in the game, ably supported by a group of experienced ‘pros’ at this level have risen to the challenge especially in the last few weeks.
We know and accept there have been moments of misbehaviour we could all have done without in and around the ground this season on occasions, but the club have taken rigorous action in response.
Chairman Alan Shepherd, Manager Jim Weir, Club Captain Stuart Morrison and all involved behind the scenes can only ask and hope for a similar level of support in all respects from the stand or terracing this Saturday as was received in our ‘hour of need’ last time round as the squad of 2025/6 give it their all to continue the quest for that play-off qualification and then whatever may lie ahead?
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
