Interview with Dick Campbell after the game at Huntly.

I’m thinking, I don’t think the ball was flowing as much today as it has been but I don’t think Derek has had a save to make today. [Just the one] Yes, one good one.
So I am happy, nothing against, I am very happy with the nothing against. We were not looking like losing. We had five players missing today who would contest for a place in any team in our league. The Sellars, Chuckies, Buffs and Swankies of this world. I not unhappy, a couple of injuries, a couple of wee niggling injuries I was down to eighteen players. You’ve got to be very happy with no goals against. You’ve got to be happy with what we have achieved but I’ve never seen a title won on pre-season games. I remember being at Dunfermline and winning seven pre-season games and not winning the first seven (league) games. I remember at Brechin losing six pre-season games and winning the next six.
These games are all about fitness and it is good to get a game into Ross and Foxy today. That’s another one of the five (injuries), Foxy’s a big player for Forfar and we got twenty minutes into him. I’m still trying to find the right partnership up front. Dunlop did well.
[Since we last spoke that’s been two win with six goals scored and none conceded. You are playing the same players on trial, do you think you will sign them?] They have done well enough to warrant a contract and I will sit down with them this week and see what is in front of them. We have another game on Tuesday and I will decide then. They’ve got to compete as players coming in have got to be in my mind all the time, if that makes sense to you? They have to contribute to the team, I don’t want to be going up on a Saturday to a game and then finding out I have not thought about those guys.
[I would say they are as good as if not better than what we have at the moment] I know but you are not the manager. [No, exactly, what would you say?] I would say they have done well, well enough to and I am thinking along those lines, without being cheeky, I am thinking along these lines. It is difficult as players have got other options on their minds, other clubs are after them and I certainly will live within my budget. We’ll see, they have done all the pre-season and the young kids have done well; Duncan Reid, Connor and Webby have all done well. They are only eighteen years old and Duncan’s only seventeen. I got that to go for so I’m reasonably happy, I’ve not complaints.
[You had the majority of the ball throughout the whole game. You’re talking about the link in the final third. There was a difference when Martyn came on] He’s just that quality player we need. I think Ross will, by his own admission, Ross has scored a lot of goals for Forfar in his time, but I think he will drop back the park to a wider area. He is the type of player who you can throw on any time and he would cause anybody a lot of problems.
Anyway, that’s what I am thinking so we will go ahead to Tuesday.
