Farmington Ready to stop at Station Park

Forfar Athletic manager Dick Campbell, along with players Keith Gibson and Omar Kader welcomed the SWPL squad to their new Station Park venue ahead of next weekend’s SWPL match against Hibernian.
The Loons contingent were on hand to help launch Forfar Farmington’s use of Station Park following eight weeks of frantic work.
The home of Forfar Athletic has been a hive of activity during the summer break, with installation of the new 3G surface to replace what was widely accepted as one of the best lower league grass surfaces in Scotland.
In 2011 CashBack for Communities, an organisation set up to divert the proceeds of crime to diversionary activities for young people, made an award of £300,000 towards the installation of 3G playing surface at the club’s training facility at the Market Muir. Initial investigations revealed that significant additional funding would be required to facilitate the installation of the new surface on the Market Muir, so a partnership working group was formed between Forfar Farmington and Forfar Athletic to investigate the laying of a new 3G surface at The Loons’ home of Station Park.
With the involvement of sportscotland, Scottish FA and Angus Leisure Services, the Station Park surface was replaced during The Loons’ close season with a FIFA 2 star 3G surface by main contractors Hunter Construction Ltd, with Delson Contracts carrying out various enabling works including the removal of the grass surface.
Forfar Athletic, Forfar Farmington and the local community will now be able to enjoy playing an a first class surface, whilst The Loons’ commercial income on match days will be afforded some degree of protection, with the reduced chance of fixtures falling foul to inclement weather. For Forfar Farmington, the SWPL side will now train and play in a venue which meets the standards of the forthcoming UEFA Womens’ Club Licence scheme, whilst some of the clubs youth sides will be able to make use of the surface for both games and training .
Forfar Farmington make their debut on the new surface this coming Sunday against Hibernian. The SWPL action kicks off at 4pm, with gate prices set at £3 for adults and FREE for U-16s. As part of the continuing partnership with ‘The Loons’, Forfar Farmington are delighted to extend the validity of Forfar Athletic season tickets for FREE access to all Forfar Farmington SWPL matches.
