Match Preview - Stenhousemuir v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 30 August 2012 21:34]
The ‘Loons’ hit the road for the second week running when they head to Ochilview on Saturday to meet a Stenhousemuir side who will still most certainly be on a high after knocking out League Cup holders Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Tuesday night, the final result a by all accounts deserved 2-1 success.
The ‘Warriors’ are also still unbeaten in the league with a win and two draws to date and are in the quarter final of the Ramsdens Cup where they travel to meet Arbroath on Sunday week.
Dick Campbell’s men though will also travel in good heart following their deserved victory at Somerset Park last week. Dick is unlikely to make much change if any to the starting line up for the third week running, but with clearance now through from the Faroese F.A. defender Odmar Faeroe will undoubtedly be in contention for a place on the bench. He played the full 90 minutes in a 5-0 midweek victory over Downfield Juniors in a closed doors game, a match which also saw David Mowat return to action in a sky blue shirt. Work commitments had made his availability this term a doubt, but signing talks are now on going and he will feature in another couple of friendlies due over the international break which is on the horizon.
Charlie King who pulled up injured in the warm up at Ayr will face a late fitness test and of course there will be a familiar face in the ‘Warriors’ side, Greg Ross having made the move to Stenhousemuir from Station Park in the summer following a couple of successful seasons with the ‘Loons.’
The Station Park men of course secured their Second Division status on their previous visit to Ochilview on the final Saturday of last season, a Martyn Fotheringham blockbuster sealing a 2-1 win. At the same time it knocked any hopes that the homesters had of securing a play-off spot ‘on the head.’
The Stirlinghsire club were rocked by the departure of Manager David Irons in early July as he entered a new phase in his life as a policeman in Dumfries and Galloway, but his replacement former Motherwell defender Martyn Corrigan has had a dream start in the job.
All at Station Park were delighted when well over 100 supporters made the journey to Ochilview in May and it would be a big boost to the players if even half that amount made the 150 mile round trip on Saturday.
The game will be refereed by experienced SFL official Gary Hilland.
