Station Park Snow Problems
[Tuesday, 22 January 2013 17:05]
The winter weather continues to raise problems for us at the Park as we gain valuable experience in how to keep the facility open to the many clubs now actively enjoying the facility. Over the past few weeks, frost has been the major problem, and this has been overcome by frequent brushing and expensive salt application.
The many requests for use of the pitch over this period certainly suggests that this was one of the few, if not the only outdoor pitch available in the area.
However two weeks ago we had the first major snowfall, which was cleared from the pitch on the Monday, resulting in the complete weeks lets being available.
The latest heavier fall again was cleared by Bob Charlton and Martin over full days on Sunday and Monday resulting in the pitch again being available by 5.00 pm on Monday. However the blizzard conditions which commenced just after this time resulted in a decision being taken to close the facility over Monday evening. The Leisure Centre were informed and contacted the groups advising them of the closure.
As can been seen we are making every effort to keep the pitch available and will continue to do so over the winter months.
A problem that we now have to overcome is the banks of cleared snow which surrounds the pitch, leaving little room left for further clearance. We do not have a tractor with lifting equipment or a suitable tractor/bogie to remove this snow which we will have to obtain to get this done. Perhaps someone out there that reads this does??
