Summary
Following victories over Dundee United’s youngsters and Formartine United, the ‘Loons’ make the lengthy midweek trip north on Tuesday evening to play Ross County in their final group stage fixture in this season’s KDM Evolution Trophy.
They will come up against a home side desperate to make a quick return to higher echelons in league football following successive relegations, and certainly they look well on track to achieve that ambition.
The sides had contrasting results on Saturday past, Forfar losing out to Elgin at home while the Dingwall outfit netted five goals without reply along the road at Links Park.
The Athies management and players will also head up the A9 knowing that only a victory will give them a chance of reaching the knock-out stages, having only accrued one point from their opening trio of fixtures in the tournament,
Stuart Kettlewell’s side currently sit in second spot in the forty-club table, a point behind surprise leaders Clydebank. However, with three league fixtures scheduled for a ten-day period on their horizon, one of them against arch rivals at the top of the table, Hamilton Accies, they will in all probability take the opportunity to rotate their squad on Tuesday evening.
Jim Weir will of course, have to cope without four of his loan players who have been or are still involved in the tournament with their parent clubs.
This will be the first meeting between the sides since July of 2019 when Ross County recorded a 2-0 win on home soil in a Betfred League Cup clash.
The man in the middle is Lewis Hogarth
